It wasn’t so long ago when the borders between ‘manly’ things and ‘womanly’ things were much more clearly defined. Men drank beer; women sipped Chardonnay. Action movies for men; romantic comedies for women. Men ate wings at Hooters, women dined at a bistro. Men relaxed with golf; women went to the spa.

Almost without my notice, these lines have begun to blur. For me anyway. Unless I’m having Mexican food, or it’s a hot day, I genuinely prefer wine to beer. Actually good action movies are very few and far between and when it’s my wife’s turn to pick the DVD, I don’t mind so much when she chooses ‘When Harry Met You’ve Got Mail in Seattle.’ And the sad truth is that the food at Hooter’s is abysmal and always has been. I just never cared before. Now I can’t stomach it.
